I was born and raised in Kathmandu the capital city of the glorious Himalayan country, Nepal. The country has a very patriarchal society, so I have had a firsthand experience about how males dominated the society. A couple of decades ago women were deprived of education and employment. They were limited up to the usual household activities where as men were eligible for any kind of opportunity. For example: My grand mom was neither given the opportunity of education nor of employment. It makes me feel bad that I am a product and a part of the same society but now things have changed. The way our society worked back then and the way it works now is very different.Still men are considered the “better than” and women are considered the “less than” part of the system. But the intensity of discrimination as i said earlier has dropped down to very low rate. Back then women were bound to stay inside the house and the only work given to them were housekeeping and babysitting but now due to education and better awareness people are more open to new ideas that have given women equal rights as men. Women today have flourished an boomed in many financial and developmental sectors as men, and has proven their worth. But there are still other places in the world where women are very ill treated and are forced to certain terms and conditions. We should all protest against those kinds of activities if we come across it and try our best to give our society, the feeling of equality.
